QEGS has a long and distinguished history educating bright boys from a wide catchment entered on the cathedral city of Wakefield. Ours is a happy, vibrant school offering high quality facilities and a learning environment which is energetic, challenging and fun.
We are looking for someone to lead the department who can inspire the next generation of QEGS musicians coming through as well as working collaboratively with both our Juniors and WGHS. We have a rich tradition of swing and brass bands plus the emergence of some high class choral groups (anchored on our historic links with the cathedral and its choristers, many of whom are QEGS boys.) The Foundation music ensembles also include two orchestras and a large number of ensembles led by our ‘VIMS’.
The role covers the leadership of both curricular and extra curricular music and is supported by a Deputy Director of Music based in the Senior Section.
First and foremost, we are looking for someone with a passion for music; an inspiring teacher who will enjoy working with bright and talented boys. You will also either have the leadership experience or the potential to bring the best out of your departmental colleagues – to have a clear vision about the (musical) house style you want to develop and the acquisition of skills you expect the boys to build up as they move through the school. This middle management role comes with its share of administrative tasks (e.g. tracking, development planning, performance management and so on, as well as management of the VIMs) but, above all, we need someone capable of bringing a buzz to QEGS music, both in the classroom and in performances!
