About the job

To commence April or September 2022

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational Director of Music to lead our world-class specialist music provision alongside our wider commitment to music education across the School.

As one of the UK’s five Specialist Music Schools, Wells has an enviable reputation for the quality of its music, and we are looking to appoint a suitably experienced candidate with the energy and ambition to enhance our offering still further.

The successful candidate will also be a member of the School’s Senior Management Team, contributing to the strategic and operational life of both the Music Department and the wider School.

Wells is unique among the UK Specialist Music Schools since our programme is offered within the context of an all-round co-educational boarding and day school for pupils from ages 2-18.

In addition, we are also a Cathedral Choir School, with responsibility for the education of the Choristers of Wells Cathedral and with exciting opportunities for musical and artistic collaborations with the Cathedral.

Situated in the heart of the West Country and in the centre of beautiful Wells, there are few schools in the world which can claim to be as historic and creatively vibrant as Wells Cathedral School.

We look forward to appointing a candidate of the highest calibre to build on our already excellent reputation and one who will ensure we remain at the forefront of music education and provision both nationally and globally.

Closing date: Tuesday 5 October 2021, 12 noon.

The first round of Interviews are scheduled to take place the week commencing Monday 11 October 2021.

The second round of interviews are scheduled to take place on Monday 1 November 2021.

Suitable candidates may be interviewed before the closing date and Wells Cathedral School reserves the right to withdraw the position if an early appointment is made.

Applicants are therefore encouraged to apply early.
