About the job

As the Director of Music, you will lead the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of our Music Department. You will inspire, mentor, and support a team of talented Teachers and Visiting Music Teachers and collaborate with other departments. Additionally, you will oversee a diverse range of musical ensembles, choirs, and performances, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to explore and develop their musical talents.

As a traditional girls’ boarding school with a modern twist, we offer an enriching, caring and creative environment, where every girl is challenged and supported in equal measure.

At Downe House, music is a valued academic and creative subject that is fully inclusive and equips girls with lifelong musical skills. The Department also runs a successful and varied programme of events throughout the year.

This exciting post offers the opportunity for you to develop your management experience and to lead a high-profile Music Department at one of the leading girls’ independent boarding schools in the country.

You will be an excellent classroom practitioner, who will bring passion and enthusiasm for the subject. You will have a clear desire to ensure high standards of pupil progression and attainment and provide stimulating learning opportunities. We welcome applications from both the independent and state sector.

Full induction training and CPD opportunities will be offered, to help you to develop and hone your management skills.

We recognise that our wonderful staff are key to our success, and we offer a supportive working environment, with competitive terms and conditions and a wide range of opportunities for continuous professional development. We provide an excellent induction programme for all new staff as well as a Pension Scheme, meals on duty and excellent working conditions.

We are also a Microsoft Showcase School where your information technology skills will be developed, and you will be provided with a Microsoft Surface.

Applications should be made via our website portal and must be received by 9.00am on Monday 11 March 2024. Please apply as soon as possible as applications will be considered upon receipt. We reserve the right to interview/appoint before the closing date.
