The School is looking to appoint an experienced leader to oversee our Performance Foundation Course and be a class singing teacher/ vocal and performance coach.  

 

Our Performance Foundation course offers our pupils the opportunity to being to focus on future course pathways whilst maintaining strong core skills training in acting, singing, music and dance. Acting classes include contemporary and classical script work, voice devised work, physical theatre and improvisation. Singing classes include healthy vocal technique, solo and ensemble repertoire classes in musical theatre and commercial music style and basic music theory. Commercial music classes incorporate music technology, songwriting, band practice and microphone technique whilst exploring different styles of music and instrumentation. Dance classes include classical ballet, modern jazz, tap, body conditioning and stretch.

 

 

Main duties

 

Director of Performance Foundation Course:

 

To act as a course leader for the Performance Foundation Course. To be the main

vocational point of contact for pupils and parents and to support their wellbeing and

vocational progress. To provide artistic direction for the course and performances.

 

Pupil Recruitment 

 

To take an active role in the recruitment of pupils and to explore and potential events/ recruitment opportunities that could be of benefit to the school and its pupils.

 

Attend relevant auditions for pupils seeking entrance into the school.

 

Pupil Support and progress

 

To hold regular tutorials with course pupils to discuss their vocational progress.

 

To review pupils’ vocational reports and assessment results to ensure that pupils are making progress and receiving support where required. 

 

To liaise closely with the Heads of Year to ensure that pupils are supported holistically.

 

To identify any areas of concern and report these to the Heads of Vocational Department, Heads of Year or Director of Studies as appropriate.

 

To act as advisor/counsellor to pupils throughout their schooling and in consultation with the Director of Studies and Careers officer to offer advice on next steps at the school and careers in the industry or in Higher Education as appropriate.

 

To correspond with parents at the earliest opportunity as challenges become apparent and to celebrate success. Arrange phone conversations and meetings as necessary

 

To support and implement the school’s behaviour policy.

 

Curriculum, Teaching and Performance

 

To remain up to date with current industry standards and trends, and to liaise closely with the Heads of Department to ensure that these are reflected in the implementation of the curriculum.

 

To teach pupils across all courses and across age ranges as much as possible within subject speciality.

 

To be responsible for all course performances throughout the year and to have overall artistic vision of these shows.

 

To be responsible for the ‘show’ and any other allocated budget for the course and to ensure that this is used effectively in conjunction with the Director of Studies.

 

To liaise closely with the Head of Graduate programmes to ensure that any provision for graduate pupils is appropriate for their chosen pathway.

 

Singing Teacher/Vocal and Performance Coach:

 

  • To teach class singing lessons as per the timetable, focusing on vocal technique, musicianship and performance. 
  • To teach and coach classical, musical theatre and pop vocal repertoire confidently 
  • To have competent keyboard skills for accompanying students in lessons
  • Teach pupils, aged 8 to 18 on all of the school’s vocational courses, as dictated by the timetable 
  • To assist pupils in the preparation for assessments, auditions and performances.
  • Be responsible for the preparation and development of teaching materials and teaching programmes as appropriate. 
  • Be accountable for the attainment, progress and outcomes of pupils you teach.
  • Be aware of pupils’ capabilities, their prior knowledge and plan teaching and differentiate appropriately to build on these, demonstrating knowledge and understanding of how pupils learn.
  • Maintain standards of discipline according to the school’s codes of conduct and in line with the school’s rewards and sanctions programmes.
  • Reports – To prepare reports of pupils’ progress 
  • To attend staff meetings, in-service training and conferences regularly to keep up to date with current training modalities / with new initiatives in the industry, teaching and training.
  • Attend departmental meetings, parents’ consultations and whole school events.
  • Cover for absent colleagues. 
  • Be responsible for improving your teaching through participating fully in training and development opportunities identified by the school or as an outcome of your appraisal.
  • To have professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school, and maintain high standards in your own attendance and punctuality.
  • Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school, raising any concerns following school protocol/procedures.
  • Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.
  • Perform any reasonable duties as requested by the Principal of the school.

 

Person Specification

Essential

Strong organisational and planning skills

Creativity and enthusiasm working with children and young people

Awareness of current industry standards and trends

Be able to teach and coach classical, musical theatre and pop vocal repertoire confidently 

Competent keyboard skills for accompanying students in lessons 

Are able to teach to a professional standard

Experience of class and one to one teaching

Proven IT skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook and MS Teams

Ability to work as an efficient, reliable and flexible team member
 Clear commitment to implementing whole school/staff policies, including in relation to the safeguarding of children

Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact
