About the job

An outstanding teacher of Music is required for September 2024. The School has a long-standing record of high academic achievement (95% of A-level and Pre-U entries gained A* to B/D1-M1 grades in 2023). There is also much happening in terms of co-curricular activities, and all staff are expected to be fully involved in School life.

Music is hugely important, and the school is proud of its very successful, thriving and resolutely academic department. Most pupils in the School learn at least one musical instrument. Many are encouraged by a scheme in Old Grammar and First Form (Years 6 & 7) which allows a pupil to have two terms of free tuition when they join the School. Examination results are strong. For IGCSE, some pupils study Music as a timetabled subject; others take it as an extra option, taking the exam a year early. Every year, several pupils go on to read Music at university or conservatoire, with a number of recent success as Oxbridge Choral and Organ Scholars.

We aspire to attract a staff that matches the social and cultural diversity of the CLS community. We welcome applications from anyone with the relevant skills and abilities, and particularly from those who may not previously have thought of applying to a school such as ours. We use CV Minder to anonymise applications.

CLS was named by the Sunday Times as London Independent Secondary School of the Year 2020, and occupies fine, modern buildings near St. Pauls Cathedral overlooking the Thames, opposite the Tate Modern. There are impressive off-site sports facilities in south east London.

CLS Teaching Pay Scale £37440 - £61410.

City of London School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Further information about the School and a copy of the most recent ISI Inspection report are available on the school website.

Closing date: 9am 17 May 2024.

Interviews will be held on week commencing 20 May 2024.
