The Role

Music is exceptional at Haberdashers’ and plays a crucial role in our community. We are proud to work in a broad range of musical styles and genres, supported by an ambitious and imaginative concert schedule.

The role of Music Technician will be new at our school, a response to a growing demand for audio production and recording opportunities. Highlights this year have included the production of two music videos (available through our website), a trip to Abbey Road studios to record our Big Band, and a multitude of concerts in a wide range of styles and settings. One of the most exciting areas of the department is our collaborations with the drama department, creating original/devised work with music built into the fabric of each production. We are at a unique moment of growth and innovation within the music school and are hugely excited to add this specialism to our team.

The ideal candidate may be from an audio production or music technology background, they may be a performing musician with a thorough knowledge of recording techniques, they may be interested in a career in education/teaching music technology. Crucially this person should be passionate about creating high quality work - from recording, to live front-of-house audio. They should be highly organised, and work well as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take a leading role in major school recording projects.
  • Take responsibility for front of house audio at all major concerts.
  • Take initiative in leading students to recording/capturing their work on a regular basis.
  • Manage and track all equipment across the Music School.
  • Consult on purchase and upkeep of audio equipment, guiding us through the process of modernisation in this area.
  • Assist on the set up for all major ensemble rehearsals.
  • Contribute as part of the core team of the Music School, attending regular meetings and offering insight on our long-term vision, especially with regards to music technology and audio production.
  • Offer support to our Music Administrator where required.
  • Oversight of all music tech equipment including music labs, associated equipment and software.
  • Support and advise on AV for all large-scale events in the school where required, including school plays, the wider Co-Curricular programme, Open Day and visiting speakers.

Person Specification

  • Highly capable with AV recording and associated software, including editing and post- production experience.
  • Experience of audio production for live events.
  • Enthusiastic about all forms of music, including some experience and knowledge of recording a wide range of ensembles and musical genres.
  • Proactive and inspiring person with a positive outlook.
  • Highly organised.
  • Committed work ethic with high personal standards.
