The role: The post of Music Technician is an essential role within the Music Department. It offers the opportunity for an experienced technician to support the department in its academic daily life and also in its numerous extra-curricular activities; managing the AV, lighting, recording and sound control technology to support the musicians when they perform at events, concerts, rehearsals and examinations.
The skills: You will have a First degree in Music Technology or a closely related subject, along with strong expertise in musical software technology and experience of basic instrument maintenance. Your experience of supporting a range of events from solo performances to concerts with several hundred performers will be relied upon, as will your problem-solving skills and flexibility under pressure. Your calm, competent demeanour will be appreciated and you will enjoy being a part of our friendly, supportive team.
The environment: Harrow School is situated within a beautiful site in Harrow on the Hill, northwest London, and is one of the best-known schools in the world, with around 840 boys studying at Harrow. Music is an important part of life at Harrow School. Forty percent of pupils take individual music lessons from the five full-time and 40 part-time staff. There is an impressive array of choirs, orchestras, chamber, jazz and rock groups, and these perform in concerts at School and elsewhere. 80 concerts, ranging from lunch-hour events at St Mary’s Church to the Choral Society Concert in Speech Room with over 300 performers take place in a typical year. The Music School was purpose-built in 1894 and is a listed building with a small concert hall, office, teaching rooms and practice rooms.
