Music Education Islington (MEI) is looking for a musical educator who is passionate about fostering a life-long love for music in our students, eager to collaborate musically and able to work as an integral member of an educational team. The Orchestra and Instrumental Lead will have experience as an ensemble musician/conductor at a high level and could be a composer, conductor or instrumentalist. We are looking for someone who is excited by leading workshops with young people, from beginner to advanced level. The lead will have the knowledge and ability to embrace a wide variety of genres and styles creatively, including an excellent knowledge of western classical instruments and traditions. They will have demonstrable skills in choosing and adapting musical repertoire to the ability of students and will be able to push the boundaries of conventional music making.
The Orchestra and Instrumental Lead will work towards developing progression routes, pedagogy and a learning framework / curriculum that is inclusive and takes into account the diverse backgrounds and knowledge bases of our students, as well as different teaching scenarios from 1-to-1 to group and ensemble lessons. The lead will be expected to present fully costed business plans in line with MEI’s strategic aims. The work of the lead will link into the provision in all areas of Music Education Islington.
The Orchestra and Instrumental Lead will develop a team adaptable to the needs and interests of the students with whom we work. They will seek out performance opportunities, prepare students for exams, performances and auditions where appropriate, and provide guidance for next steps in progression. The lead will also support the network of MEI tutors through training within their areas of expertise and is expected to attend training relevant to the post and stay informed of developments in the music culture and industry.
