Organ Teacher (Visiting Music Teacher)

The successful candidate will have experience both as a performer and teacher at all levels and be willing to teach students from beginner level up to Grade 8 and beyond, across both the Junior and Senior Schools (age 7-18).   Organ lessons take place in the College Chapel, on the School’s 2-manual Copeman Hart. 

They will be flexible and pro-active in their approach and have good communication skills, and provide high-calibre lessons for pupils, enabling them to perform musically to the high standards expected by the School and to achieve their full potential in music examinations and concert performances as appropriate. This will be primarily achieved through one-to-one lessons, and assistance with ensembles, concerts and coaching as required. Visiting Music Teachers are initially responsible to the relevant Head of Section, and thereafter the Director of Music. 

Initially, the role will entail approximately 2 hours teaching per week, but the Department is targeting an increase in the number of pupils learning the organ, and so it is hoped that this would increase. The VMT; Organ would be encouraged, and supported, in taking a leading role in promoting the study of the Organ at the school. It is anticipated that the postholder would also be offered further work in the form of occasional concerts and services, both at Eltham College and externally. 

The Music Department currently consists of the Director of Music, Head of Junior School Music, six Heads of Section (Wind, Brass, Strings, Piano, Singing, Percussion), two academic music teachers, a Music Administrator, a Graduate Music Assistant and a team of 37 part-time visiting instrumental teachers.
