About the job

Required for January (once all necessary recruitment checks have been completed)

Casual supply contract working term time only – 33 weeks per year

We wish to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic part-time Classical/Electric Guitar teacher to join our thriving music department and skilled team of peripatetic instrumental teachers.

The Music department is vibrant, dynamic and highly successful, offering instrumental lessons to around 250 of our pupils aged 11 to 18.  Students achieved 100% 4-9 at GCSE and 100% A to B grades at A-level (based on our 2019 Music results).  The instrumental team are integral to our success and as such we are looking for a candidate who can support the curriculum, up to A-level standard, through the instrumental teaching work they undertake. Many of our pupils take external instrumental exams up to grade 8 and beyond.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished player with sound technique, who is able to teach at least up to grade 8 and be familiar with the different exam boards.  The work comprises mainly one to one tuition, with occasional paired lessons. A relevant diploma (or higher) level performance or teaching qualification is desirable. In addition to teaching guitar, we would very much like the successful candidate to rebuild our ‘Rock School’ provision in school, which pre-Covid, was a vibrant part of our Music department provision. There is also potential for some work at our biggest feeder school.

Initially there will be at least 6 hours guitar teaching (for just the Classical/Electric guitar tuition at The Broxbourne School) and the successful candidate would work under the guidance of our Head of Guitars.

An application pack is available below or by email to recruitment@broxbourne.herts.sch.uk.  Please apply by letter addressed to Ms Humphreys, Headteacher enclosing your application form, cv and quoting two referees.

All applicants must ensure they complete a copy of the school's application form which forms part of their safer recruitment process.  CVs can be attached to the application form but not submitted on its own.

Closing date: 13th December

We are an Equal Opportunities employer.  The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All post holders are subject to employment checks and an enhanced check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
