Applications are being welcomed for a Tenor Lay Clerk on a 1 year fixed term contract based in Cambridge, reporting to the Director of Music.
The Lay Clerk will be required to sing in the College Choir on five days out of seven, comprising 3 services per week during the eight weeks of full term (Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday) and rehearsals on Monday and Wednesday evening.
The Lay Clerk will also be required to sing at special services such as Solemn Eucharist for Ash Wednesday, Requiem for All Souls and Carol Services, and some Sunday morning services.
The post-holder will therefore need to be available during full term (3 x 8 weeks) plus up to 5 weeks during the vacations for other Choir activities. The successful candidate will have appropriate vocal quality and technique, along with advanced sight-reading skills.
Accommodation is not provided, however the post holder will receive expensed travel and accommodation (where necessary) for concerts, tours, recordings and broadcasts, plus fees where appropriate. Other benefits include free singing lessons with one of the College’s singing teachers.
The salary for the one year fixed term appointment is £3,500 with 33 days annual leave. Leave may be taken during the 2 weeks after Christmas, 2 weeks after Easter and the remainder between July and September by mutual agreement.

Interviews and auditions for short- listed candidates will take place during July. Short-listed candidates will be asked to prepare two contrasted pieces lasting no more than a total of 10 minutes, and will be given some aural and sight-reading tests. An accompanist will be provided.
